Kathleen R. McNamara is Professor of Government and Foreign Service at Georgetown University and Co-Director of the Global Political Economy Project. Her work focuses on markets, culture, and politics in the European Union and the United States, with particular interest in industrial policy, money, and globalization. She is the author of “The Politics of Everyday Europe: Constructing Authority in the European Union” (Oxford University Press, 2016) “The Currency of Ideas: Monetary Politics in the European Union” (Cornell University Press, 1998) and co-editor of “Making History: European Integration and Institution Change at Fifty” (Oxford University Press, 2007). She is the recipient of the 2018 Distinguished Scholar in International Political Economy award from the International Studies Association and the ISA’s 2020 SWIPE Award for Mentoring Women in International Political Economy. She has provided analysis to the National Intelligence Council and other government bodies, and is a frequently commentator in public fora and media outlets such as Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, the Washington Post, and on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered and Marketplace. At Georgetown, Dr. McNamara has served on the University Committee on Rank and Tenure, the University Budget Committee, as the Vice Dean for Faculty & Graduate Affairs in SFS, and as Director of the Mortara Center for International Studies. Dr. McNamara also has taught at Princeton University and Sciences Po (Paris), and has been a visiting scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation, a German Marshall Fund Fellow, a Fulbright Fellow, and a Simone Veil Fellow at the European University Institute. McNamara received her PhD from Columbia University and her BA from McGill University.
