Deise Galan

Deise Galan, DrPH, MPH, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Global Health in the School of Health and the Program Director for the Master of Science in Climate, Environment, and Health (MS-CEH) at Georgetown University.

Dr. Galan has extensive experience in environmental health, emergency preparedness, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), infectious diseases, and zoonotic diseases. Her work centers on bridging research, policy, and practice at the intersection of climate, environment, and health. She also specializes in the One Health approach, integrating human, animal, and environmental health to strengthen public health resilience and inform evidence-based decision-making.

Prior to joining Georgetown, Dr. Galan served as a Lead Analyst at the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), where she supported local health departments across the United States in building capacity for wastewater surveillance, environmental health, and emergency preparedness and response. She previously worked at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), where she provided technical assistance to ministries of health and partner organizations across Latin America on the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases.

Dr. Galan has taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students for more than a decade and is deeply committed to cultivating the next generation of public health professionals. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Virginia Tech and both a Master of Public Health and Doctor of Public Health from the George Washington University.
