Deise Galan

Deise Galan, DrPH, MPH, is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Global Health at Georgetown University and a Lead Analyst at the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). She has extensive experience working in both national and international settings, with a focus on public health preparedness, emergency response, water, sanitation and hygiene, zoonotic diseases, and environmental health. Her work primarily focuses on enhancing emergency preparedness and environmental health capacities at local health departments across the U.S., with an emphasis on wastewater surveillance. She achieves this by managing and implementing projects, fostering collaborations with public and private organizations, conducting research, and advocating for impactful policies.

Prior to joining NACCHO, Dr. Galan worked at the Pan American Health Organization, providing technical assistance on disease prevention and control to countries and partner organizations throughout Latin America.

Dr. Galan has taught and mentored undergraduate and graduate students for over 10 years and is deeply passionate about supporting the next generation of public health leaders. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Virginia Tech, as well as a Master’s and Doctorate in Public Health from George Washington University.
