Event Recap: Earth Day Festival

On April 22, the Earth Commons and Georgetown Program Board cohosted the Earth Day Festival on the Leavey Esplanade. From 1 to 3 PM, the campus community gathered for an afternoon of connection, creativity, and celebration in honor of our planet.

The festival featured fresh grilled veggie burgers from the GU Grilling Society, garden-inspired drinks from The Corp, and a standout live performance by the GU Phantoms. Guests explored a colorful showcase of student-led sustainability efforts from secondhand fashion finds with Georgetown REUSE to hands-on bouquet making with GPB.

Attendees tie dyed clothing with Outdoor Education, mixed herb planting kits with Hoya Harvest Garden, and tested their environmental knowledge through trivia games with the Office of Sustainability and Food Recovery Network. The Corp Green offered interactive coffee scrub making.

At the Maker Hub’s station, students created buttons and explored 3D printing technology, while GradGov’s EES Committee and the MS in Environment and International Affairs shared ways to get involved in advocacy and graduate study. The BS in Environment and Sustainability, Georgetown Library were also on hand to engage students with their green initiatives and programs.

With music, giveaways, DIY crafts, and a strong sense of community, the Earth Day Festival brought our campus together to celebrate our common home and imagine new ways to grow forward together.
