Walid Ouaret is an Earth observation scientist whose work focuses on land-use and environmental change under climate variability and extreme events. He combines satellite observations, climate data, field measurements, and spatial modeling to study how landscapes and human systems respond to drought and other environmental pressures. At Georgetown, he works with Roshi Nateghi and the SuRGE Lab to advance research on Earth observation, climate risk, and environmental resilience.
He earned a Ph.D. in Geographical Sciences from the University of Maryland, an M.S. in Climate, Land Use, and Ecosystem Services from Paris-Saclay University and AgroParisTech, an M.S. in Sustainable Agriculture from the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania in Greece, and an engineering degree in Agronomy from the National Higher School of Agronomy in Algeria.
