Dr. Marissa Fond is an applied sociolinguist whose research includes the analysis of knowledge, beliefs, and emotions in language and interaction; analysis of metaphor and framing; social constructions of health; health communication; and research interviewing and other qualitative research methods. Previously, she has been a Research Sociolinguist at the U.S. Census Bureau, the primary federal statistical agency; and Assistant Director of Research and Senior Researcher at the FrameWorks Institute, a MacArthur Award-winning framing and messaging research non-profit. In addition to her work at Georgetown, she is an independent consultant for social science research non-profits, healthcare communication firms, academic departments, and government contractors. She has taught discourse analytic methods, metaphor and framing, language and health, and general sociolinguistics at Georgetown, the University of Maryland, and Truman State University.
